GIRLS SOCCER: JV Wins 5-0; Varsity Settles for Tie with Orestimba

Girls JV soccer beat Orestimba, 5-0, yesterday at Weston Ranch. Abigail Torres, Genesis Auggire, Fatima Mendoza, Abril Landa, and Isabella Gomez each knocked home a goal en route to the victory.

“The JV gave an amazing performance with this shutout,” said varsity head coach Bailey Nelson. “Team captain Aura Sugaya kept the defensive line going and didn’t let any breakaways happen.”

The win over Orestimba improved the JV record to 5-3.

In the Varsity game, Weston Ranch and Orestimba played to a 1-1 tie.

Fatima Ruiz scored the lone Cougars goal with an assist from Leslie Jaurez.

“We didn’t have four starting players, including our starting and backup goalies,” Nelson said. “Lesslie Garcia, who isn’t one of our goalkeepers, stepped up and did an amazing job with six saves.”

Weston Ranch is now 2-0-1 after yesterday’s contest and faces Ben Holt Prep Academy on November 30 at Weston Ranch. The next win will tie them for most victories since the 2017-2018 season and help them get closer to the school record of seven wins currently held by the 2015-2016 team.

Wednesday’s games with Ben Holt Academy at Weston Ranch will begin with the JV at 4 pm, and the Varsity will follow at 5:45.
