Sports have always been a great way to pass the time, whether they are played competitively or for fun. At WRHS, our Esports teams are off to a fantastic start to the season, with impressive wins over Ripon High School, Herbert Hoover High School, and Valley Robotics High on January 18th. This success is thanks to the hard work and dedication of our SSBU JV and Varsity Teams, as well as our brand new Valorant team.

Many people had high hopes for Esports this season, and the teams have not disappointed. The JV SSBU team came out with a 3-1 victory over Herbert Hoover High School, while the Varsity team kept it clean with a 3-0 win against Ripon High School. Valorant, the new sport on the block, did not disappoint either, with a 1-0 win over Valley Robotics High School.

The teams are not resting on their laurels, and they are already looking ahead to their next games with even higher expectations. Bernie Pasagui, a member of the Valorant team, shared his thoughts on how well their first game went: “The team did well, amazing even.”

You can help support the WRHS Esports program by contributing to their new DonorsChoose fundraiser. This program has already helped the team to achieve great things, and with your help, they can reach even greater heights. As Ms. Hinter, Esports Coach and Algebra teacher at WRHS, says, “At this point, we are looking to add an Overwatch team for fall and Valorant and League of Legends in the Spring with SSBU. I am more than happy to add a Rocket League team if there are players to do so.”

The DonorsChoose fundraiser is requesting donations for gear that can be used to improve the teams’ practice. You can donate any amount you wish, and the fundraiser will run until they reach their requested amount or May 10th, whichever comes first. If the goal is not met, you can request a refund for your donation.
