Last Friday, the WRHS swim team competed in their only home swim meet in the 2021 swim season, shortened to a one-month season due to Covid-19 restrictions and precautions. This meet was the 3rd out of 5 scheduled meets the swim team has competed in, where they all work together to cheer each other on and support their mates as they compete in rigorous but achievable swimming events against other teams from other schools.

The home swim meet on the 26th of March was a success as the team worked together to set up and clean up and give dedicated effort in competing in their assigned events such as the 200-meter relay, 100-meter freestyle, 200-meter freestyle, 100-meter backstroke. In addition to the demands of swimming in the races, last Friday’s meet was also the swim team’s seniors’ final home swim meet of their high school career.

Head coach Clayton Basepayne and assistant coach Rebecca Hunter acknowledged the seniors on the team for their commitment and effort throughout the swim seasons. Seniors honored were Jonathan Ordner, Wilson Molina, Emily Chacon, Gabrielle Vallera, and Christian Vega. During a halftime break, both schools stopped the meet to show appreciation for each senior’s contribution to the WRHS swim team.

“It was a great day for our seniors,” said Basepayne. “To see them swim their final meet was emotional, but I’m proud of each of them for competing and accomplishing their goals in a challenging sport.”
