San Joaquin Delta College’s (SJDC) leadership team spent the day on the Weston Ranch campus yesterday. With graduation around the corner, Weston Ranch seniors spent the day learning about all the opportunities available to them as offered by San Joaquin Delta College.
SJDC referred to this opportunity as the Abbreviated Student Education Plan Event (ASEP), hoping that all WRHS seniors planning to attend Delta next year got all their forms filled out and all their questions answered.
“Students came in, signed in, and listened to an introduction about the event,” said WRHS counselor Daisy Carmona. “Also, prospective students were given a check-off list where they would have to visit the different tables and get them signed off to be entered into a raffle where they had the opportunity to win 1 of 2 backpacks that were filled with school supplies.”
Students learned and had the opportunity to sign up for the EOPS program. From the Delta website: “The EOPS program is a state-funded program of support services designed to be above and beyond the scope of other services offered by the college. These services are specifically designed for students who may be economically and educationally disadvantaged.”
Students also had the opportunity to meet with a financial aid advisor to review their financial aid award, learn about the two free years at the community college, edit their FAFSA, and ask any questions about financial aid/ scholarships.
Carmona added, “They received help signing in to the Delta College Email and student portals and learning how to navigate these sites.”
The final step for the seniors was that they met with the Delta College counselor, where they built the educational plan together. Then, they selected their classes and asked questions they had had.
