FCCLA Gets Spotlight for Pumpkin Roast

FCCLA+Gets+Spotlight+for+Pumpkin+Roast

FCCLA and the culinary classes here at Weston Ranch spent the past two days roasting pumpkins. Thanks to the support and donations from the California Women for Agriculture, culinary students in Ms. Wayman’s classes had a great opportunity to practice their craft. The CWA, along with San Joaquin-Stanislaus CattleWomen, the California Women in Agriculture, and the San Joaquin Farm Bureau procured the products for classes and Ms. Wayman and her students did the rest.

The CattleWomen of San Joaquin is working to help students have more choices in what they can make, and they also want to promote farm to fork foods. The group providing the product is Van Groningen & Sons, so the culinary classes who receive the product can make different foods or such with them. The reason for the pumpkins donation was simple: it was decided the classes could use the pumpkins to create spooky treats since Halloween is coming next week.

As an added bonus, KCRA News 3 arrived on campus and featured Ms. Wayman’s class in a feature story.

Next Monday and Tuesday, the culinary classes will be making cookies which they will sell during Trunk R Treat.
