On Oct. 16, Weston Ranch’s JROTC battled nine area high schools in a sport competition.

This schools included: Edison, East Union, Lincoln, Ripon, Rio Linda, Turlock, Mount Diablo, Lathrop, and Stanislaus Military Academy. The JROTC cadets have been preparing for this event since the beginning of this school year. Last year, Weston Ranch earned more awards, however, they put much effort to receive many awards.

Both Battalion Executive Officer Cadet Alelih Galvadores (‘18) and the Battalion S3 Cadet Major Vincent Perez (‘19) handed out medals to the ones who placed in each sport.

Weston Ranch usually prevails as the overall champions at the school’s own competition. However, Perez said that, ”we feel as though it is not    sportsman-like to award yourself the trophy at your own [competition], so we pass the honor on to second place.”

Vincent’s position, S3 serves as an operations officer. This means he plans events and helps prepare the battalion for these events. Also, Vincent executes and supervise all battalion events.

The sports competition is always at The Ranch, but other schools also host their own competitions. This competition involved volleyball, games, basketball, tug-a-war, raider, soccer and swimming.

The WRHS battalion placed in: Volleyball (2nd), Soccer (1st), Games (2nd), Raider (2nd), and in Basketball (3rd). Games involved dodgeball, lawn darts, and golf.

Our WRHS battalion has a total of 130-150 cadets, which is one of the largest in our area.

Perez said, ”our cadets are very spirited, particularly our incoming LET ones which works in our favor because they put in the effort to represent our battalion well, when we do events like sports or drill comps.”
