Boys Soccer Trounces Oakdale 5-0

Zinedine Valdez scored three goals, and Alexis Chavez added two more to pace boys soccer in its 5-0 victory over Oakdale High School yesterday at Oakdale.

Valdez and Chavez also got credit for one assist each, and Alejandro Aguilar received a goal assist. Goalies Michael Balderrama and Edgar Leyvas combined their skills for the shutout.

Yesterday’s win over the Mustangs was the first win of the year for the Cougars. The 5-0 rout avenged a late season 3-3 tie to Oakdale that kept Weston Ranch from winning the VOL during the 2021-2022 season.

While it is nice to get the first win, head coach Francisco Cisneros will continue to ask his Cougars to improve every game and not become complacent with an opening game blowout.

“We had some moments where we looked organized,” Cisneros said. “We’re still in the process of figuring out our starting lineup. There’s a lot of competition at fullbacks and wingers positions.

Weston Ranch’s Junior Varsity won its match 4-0 and improved its record to 2-0.

The Cougars will play Johansen High School of Modesto on November 29 at Weston Ranch. The JV will play at 4 pm, and the Varsity kicks off at 6.
