Wendy Contreras Martinez was named Weston Ranch High School’s Salutatorian for the graduating class of 2022. And on May 26th, she will stand in front of her classmates for the last time to celebrate, honor, and remember the past four years of her remarkable success.

Contreras Martinez is the class salutatorian based on her 4.25 GPA. While this honor technically means she was second place, the award in no way means she is second to anyone. From academics to campus involvement to clubs, Conteras Martinez excelled. Wendy was dedicated, determined, driven, and highly successful in everything she did at Weston Ranch.

“It’s an honor to be named the Salutatorian,” Contreras Martinez said. “I’m grateful to my peers, and it’s awesome I’ve had a chance to impact and inspire everyone.”

The past four years have been a road of discovery for Wendy, and her travels were rewarding.

“My experience at Weston Ranch has taught me valuable lessons about the real world,” Contreras Martinez said. “I’ve been able to grow and discover my voice.”

Her impacts are numerous as she spent a good deal of time in clubs, working with the peers she feels have inspired her. During her four years, Wendy played basketball and was on the swim team. In addition, she was a member of MEChA, Key Club, Orchestra, and California Scholarship Federation (CSF), where she served as the organization’s co-president.

“Wendy always tries her very best in all that she does,” said CSF adviser Stayce Baptista. “She is as diligent in her work ethic as she is as the CSF Co-President.”

Contreras Martinez wanted to thank some of the great people who encouraged her to do her best.

“Mr. Hegyi and Ms. Baptista were great teachers and mentors,” Wendy said. “Their support and encouragement were inspiring.”

“I also want to thank Emma Walter and Jannele Ico for being great friends. Emma and Jannele were there to support me and tell me to keep doing the things I love.”

Contreras Martinez will attend Washington University in St. Louis in the Fall, where she will major in Pre-Med.

“I’m excited but sad to leave Weston Ranch,” Wendy said. “I’ve made so many friends, and it will be hard to say goodbye. But I’m excited to have one more time together on graduation night.”

Congratulations again to Wendy Contreras Martinez. WRHS treasured your time here and is so proud of you. Long live the Class of 2022!
