Last night, the Weston Ranch Girls Varsity basketball team picked up a much-needed victory by dispatching the Central Catholic Raiders 59-49 at Central Catholic. The win over the Raiders has the Cougars looking at a possible post-season playoff berth.
“The game was a great game to get back on track,” said head coach Damion McMiller. “Our team is really good when we play together and talk on the court.”
The Cougars (7-11 and 3-4 in VOL) were led by Janay Holmes and her season-high 33 points. Vuntanique Brown chipped in with 11 points. Kimani Wilburn added six points to go along with six assists.
The Cougars have four games remaining on their schedule. To get into the post-season, Weston Ranch will need to get past Manteca (6-2 VOL), Kimball (6-2), non-league opponent Tracy (14-8 overall) and Central Catholic (2-6 VOL). Securing wins in all four games would probably push the Cougars into the playoff picture. Faltering in any or all will put them on the playoff picture bubble. Right now, they control their destiny.
Weston Ranch will play Manteca on February 3rd at Manteca. Game time is scheduled for 7:30.
