HOSA and be.Vital Offers Students Valuable Experience in Health Care

Have you ever heard announcements about the clubs be.Vital and HOSA and wondered what they were? Do you wonder who the students dressed in maroon and gray hospital scrubs are and what they do? Both organizations offer unique opportunities to students here at Weston Ranch.

For students not familiar with the programs, HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) is a club on our campus that focuses on bringing the outside world of medical professions to our students who wish to explore these opportunities after high school and college. Be.Vital is a school within a school where students explore science pathways to help increase knowledge in the fields of health care. Examples of some of the be.Vital classes offered to students are medical sciences, medical math, medical English, and medical history. Students in the be.Vital programs choose courses to increase their awareness and enthusiasm for a future career in the medical and health services industries.

“Here at Weston Ranch, we have partnered up to work with an organization outside of the high school, which creates a golden opportunity for students to gather together, work together, learn, build more leadership, and help them to develop more skills,” said be.Vital and HOSA adviser Mr. O’Donnell.

Be.Vital is where our future health care professionals can get help with skills, compete on different types of levels, and gain academic skills. They also attend state leadership conferences (SLC). Northern and Southern California will meet up in Long Beach later this year, where they will be challenged with skills around the health aspects. Students reach other people to get help and learn new skills and techniques during this time. O’Donnell hopes Weston Ranch has around ten students to attend the conference this year.

Now you may be asking what exactly the state leadership conferences are about? The be.Vital state leadership conferences (SLC) have to do with health care. It gives out a golden opportunity for all our new and incoming health care workers from different grade levels from junior high to high school, with all different levels of knowledge.

Here at Weston Ranch, they create many things to try out. So, why not take the chance to try out something new and learn something new with be.Vital and HOSA.
