Club Spotlight: Wellness Club

To all students of Weston Ranch, a new “Wellness Club” has emerged. Thanks to Ms. Saechao, the club’s advisor, she and 11 other students could create and begin this club. It is open to people of any grade.

The idea to form the Wellness Club came about when Ms. Saechao noticed students were asking for information about mental health and for ways to promote academic and social success. The Wellness Club was created to help kids balance their social problems and skills and find new ways to better themselves. As students, we don’t have a lot of time to spend our time learning about social skills, so this club is perfect for those who want to.

“I saw two freshmen standing by the front of the office not talking or socializing with anyone,” Saechao told The Prowl. “They looked so nervous and were crying. We needed a club for these students. So we submitted the paperwork, and it was approved by the activity director (Mr. Basepayne)and the ASB club.”

The sight of students’ anxieties inspired this club. Not many of us are very social with one another, and especially for the Freshman, seeing so many new people and teachers may be difficult. The Wellness Club was made to build the social skills to overcome these anxieties and become more outgoing.

There’s a definite need for learning and using social skills on our campus and every school campus. Also, boosting self-confidence may help some students fit in and not be nervous coming into high school.

To join, you must email Ms. Saechao or message her on Teams. When you join, there will be meetings every Thursday in room 102 during lunch.

“This is a student-led club,” said Ms. Saechao, “it helps the students get a lot out of it because they get to talk with one another.”
