It was announced recently by California Governor Gavin Newsom that by June 15th, California will lift all pandemic restrictions.
What does this necessarily mean? All previously closed businesses like movie theaters, bars, restaurants, large conventions, and any jobs that had been closed will all reopen to continue post-pandemic life. California officials have said that most people will be vaccinated by June, but there will still be a mask mandate.
“With more than 20 million vaccines administered across the state, it is time to turn the page on our tier system and begin looking to reopen California’s economy fully. We can now begin planning for our lives post-pandemic,” Gov. Gavin Newsom said.
California had one of the worst breakouts of COVID in the country, with 3.5 million cases and about 58,00 deaths currently. California is also the state with the strictest restrictions because of how high the COVID cases were. More than 20 million vaccinations have been completed in the state, and officials hope the numbers keep rising. We must do our part to have a post-pandemic life like getting vaccinated and wearing masks when in a large group. Newsom said during the press interview that he expects 30 million vaccines to be administered by the end of April.
This reopening will only happen if hospital rates remain stable and if the vaccinations are still on schedule. According to Governor Newsom, 75% of people over the age of 65 have received one dose of the vaccine, and 40% have gone to those 16 and older. This pandemic has been very hard and long, but at last, we see the light at the end of the tunnel, and we all couldn’t be happier.
