Cougars Getting Ready to get Back to Sports

Just like that, the Weston Ranch Cougars are returning to play sports. Many athletes did now know if they would keep on playing after there were many rumors the seasons would get canceled for the rest of the year. Well, we are back!

WRHS athletic director Mr. Lewis told The Prowl, “San Joaquin County is officially under the adjusted positive case rate to start football, soccer, and water polo. Football started their acclimation period with helmets already and will add shoulder pads today. The football schedule was released today, and we are looking at two home games, March 26 and April 16. Soccer will start playing games the week after the last football game. Water polo will start their season after the swim season is completed.”

All outside sports are going forward and will proceed in an abbreviated season since they are outside in the free air and are not enclosed, as basketball and volleyball are, thus the reason the outdoor sports will continue. However, viewing these sports will still have many restrictions.

“Football will not have ‘fans,'” Mr. Lewis said. “Each student-athlete will get two tickets for their family to ‘supervise’ them at the game. Cheer and Band students will also receive two tickets for their ‘supervisors.'”

The tennis team has officially started their season already, as has the cross country team. While those two sports are underway, others are preparing for their respective green lights to go. The girl’s soccer team is conditioning not to lose rhythm and get ready to defeat their VOL opponents. The boy’s baseball team is also out training, will hold tryouts on March 8, and play their first non-VOL game on March 30. The Wrestling team will continue their sport, but they are still waiting on some restrictions so that they can follow the rules. The boy’s volleyball players say it is a “longshot” to return to the regular season.

But, the student-athletes cannot be more excited to return and make the campus Roarrr! Are you interested in any sports? The Prowl encourages all students to stop sitting on the couch every day, looking on Instagram or other people’s new shoes or new shirts and make a name for themselves and the high school and support the community by making a great comeback and making this year Cougar Year!
