Baseball Gets Big Win Over Vikings

Boys baseball picked up their second win Wednesday at Edison. The Cougars beat the Vikings 11-3 and improved their record to 2-5 for the season.

The Cougars exploded for nine runs in their half of the fourth inning and helped starting pitcher Gabriel Melgar collect his first win.  Melgar went all seven innings on the hill for Weston Ranch and allowed three hits while striking out four Vikings.

“We played a more complete game than our previous outing against Chavez,” head coach David Hager told The Prowl from the plush baseball offices at Weston Ranch. “Gabriel threw seven solid innings, and we played solid defense behind him.”

Offensively, the Cougars were led by senior Isaiah Maxie, who went 3-4 with one double, one RBI, and one run scored. Sophomore Dustin Tinsley (2 for 5, two runs, two RBI), David Baca (2 for 3, one run scored, two RBI), Anthony Chavez (two runs scored), and Rogelio Ruvalcaba (two runs scored) each made significant contributions for the Cougars.

Hager went on to add, “Offensively, we had good approaches at the plate, stole bases, and picked one another up.”

The Cougars are back on the field today at Franklin. The first pitch is scheduled for 4 pm.
