Weston Ranch girls basketball held their annual Senior Night on February 13. On an emotional night, seven Lady Cougars walked off the floor of Cougar Gymnasium for the final time as a basketball player.
The Lady Cougars squared off against rival Sierra and found themselves in a tight contest the entire evening. After trailing for most of the game, the Cougars roared back behind stellar efforts from seniors Jennalyn Laminero, Dearri Ross, and Darnaysha Huff. The Cougars found themselves down by 2 points with 12 seconds to go, and the ball was in the hands of senior standout Laminero. Laminero’s final shot from the corner fell short, and Weston Ranch lost the game to Sierra 50-49.
Laminero finished her career and final game as the night’s leading scorer with 18 points. Ross finished with 16.
“We had a great group of seniors,” said head coach Michael Williams. “They played hard every game. They played hard for each other, and I was proud of their efforts. The season didn’t go as we planned, but we had some great wins, and I’m happy for this group. Each of them will move on and be very successful.”
