Boys Volleyball Set and Ready for Next Level

Our boys’ volleyball has had a fantastic season so far and is 12-3. After dispatching Kimball last Wednesday, three games to one, the Cougars set themselves up for a top seed in the upcoming playoffs and secured a co-championship banner for the school walls.

Head coach Debi Chavez should be very proud of her team. Boys volleyball is in its third year of competition, and to nail down a championship in any year is quite impressive, let alone the third.

“I’m very proud of the way we finished in the league,” and excited Chavez told the Manteca Bulletin after the Kimball victory.

The Cougars tied with East Union for the overall championship as both teams finished 7-1 respectively. Both sides split their series, but because the Cougars defeated the Lancers in fewer sets during the matches, Weston Ranch was declared the number one seed for the upcoming playoffs. Seedings for the upcoming tournament will be announced later today and Tuesday night is Weston Ranch’s first game. The game should take place at WR.

Armondo Mendoza, Raul Melgarejo, and Josh Ico led the way at Kimball amassing double digits in various categories such as blocks, kills, digs, and aces. Lawrence Williams also contributed to the Cougar attack by adding five kills.

Chavez said some memorable moments include beating East Union at home, as well as just being able to witness the team having a good time and joking around.

We wish the best of luck for the upcoming playoff push. The Prowl will update the game time via Twitter (@WRHSJOURNALISM) and in future publications.
