Cougars Capture Awards at HOSA SLCs

Last March 28-31, California State HOSA Future Health Professionals(Cal-HOSA) provided an exciting and engaging experience for numerous Junior High, High School, and even Post-Secondary HOSA clubs across California at the 2019 State Leadership Conference (SLC’s). Students participated and competed in leadership developing opportunities as well as academic and skill competitions.

The Weston Ranch Cougar HOSA club sent nearly 30 participants (9-12th grade) to Sacramento to be a part of Cal-HOSA SLC’s and compete in medical oriented events such as Extemporaneous Writing, Nursing Assisting, Sports Medicine, Health Career Display, Medical Terminology, and Prepared Speech. Many competitions require multiple steps to be successful such as passing a written test before competing in a skill-based test.

WRHS had four participants receive recognition by CAL-HOSA for outstanding achievement. Kathleen Yang received recognition for Event-HOSA Happening-Students record and illustrate the WRHS “happenings” on our campus such as HOSA oriented events and newsletter content, while Sarisha Jacobs was recognized for Event-Cal-HOSA Leadership CAMP (1st year for competition) and engaged in numerous leadership activities and then tested on those at the conclusion of the event).

Two students will be advancing. Jucel Suero will move on in Event-Extemporaneous Writing. Suero was among many students given a topic on the spot and must write about the subject and relate it to this year’s theme on Mental Health over a two-hour writing period. Edria Jabil will advance along with Suero in the same category. HOSA’s International Leadership Conference (ILC’s) in Orlando Fl. will be their destination this upcoming summer.
