Baseball Defeats Franklin

Baseball won again yesterday. The Cougars bested Franklin High School of Stockton yesterday, 10-6. Spurred on by a 12-hit offensive attack and defended by Gabriel Melgar’s five strong innings on the mound, the Cougars earned the victory and moved to 3-2 on the season. Head coach David Hager is still optimistically cautious when evaluating the Cougars positive start.

“Gabriel came out and threw strikes,” Hager said. “We took care of the baseball and did what a good team needs to do to win.” (Manteca Bulletin, Campbell)

Melgar struck out six Franklin batters and David Baca finished the final two to preserve the win.

At the plate, the Cougars got multiple hits from seniors Anthony Aguilar, Austin Cappas, and Amier Bowen. Aguilar doubled and scored three runs, Cappas had three hits and scored two runs, and Bowen had two hits, drove in three, stole three bases and walked twice. Senior Carlos Drain collected two singles, and he reached base three more times on a walk, hit by pitch, and an error.
