Raiders fan rejoice! Or not… because our beloved California team is moving to Las Vegas either way. This had been speculated to happen for years now considering that games had been delayed due to another A’s game running too long and the stadium wasn’t clean. Not only that but other teams in the bay area had gotten another stadium, such as the San Francisco 49ers, their stadium currently is in Santa Clara and their previous stadium being in San Francisco.
According to a statement from Raiders General Manager Reggie McKenzie on the team’s Web site, Raiders.com, “[Team owner] Mark [Davis] had been adamant about getting us a new stadium, and wanting to be in Oakland but when that didn’t seem possible he had to look outside.” That wasn’t possible due to sharing stadiums, something Raiders fan like me know too well.
The first time I went to an Oakland Raiders game the game was delayed because the stadium wasn’t clean from the A’s game the night before. This is why NFL commissioner spoke of “stability” when saying why the Raiders moved to Las Vegas.
A lot of fans are angry but I can’t say I’m one of them. Why should I be? If the city of Oakland couldn’t get the team their own stadium when they need one then they have the right to leave.
Oakland should’ve kept the Raiders because with their 12-4 record last season and their young players it looks as though the Raiders are actually going to be a good team again. Not just next season but hopefully for the next 10 seasons.
Oakland was “Home to the Raiders “when they were mediocre but now that they’re a good team they don’t keep them. It makes no sense. The Raiders are going to bring a huge amount of money to Oakland in the upcoming season, because they are on the rise. Luckily the fan base is loyal and will be traveling to Vegas.
If Raiders fans can take over a home teams’ field advantage like we did against the Los Angeles Chargers during a color rush game (a game where teams just wear more flashy colors) the fan base should be strong in Vegas.
