Their potential for dominance was showing.

In the first half, Weston Ranch Boys Volleyball team came out with a lead but towards the end of the game. But the other team came back and won based on Cougar mistakes.

It was the Cougars first loss.

So far, it is their only loss.

Volleyball Coach Deborah Chavez’s first said she was really impressed with her players’ debut.

“They did pretty well for their first game,” said Coach Chavez.

The first game was against Patterson High School, an organized team that Chavez said had been together for three years. The team play was a preview of what was to come. Each following game, they improved.

The volleyball team won their second game versus Hilmar. And their third game competing against Ceres 25-18, 25-20, 25-23. And their fourth game at Los Banos.

“My team is doing well so far this season because we have been beating teams that had a volleyball program before,” said Jarien Falcon (’17). “I think we’re going to end the season on a good note because we’ve been playing exceptionally well on the court.”

The squad spiked their way along on a four-game winning streak.

At home the boys’ team battled Cesar Chavez High to a commanding victory. Though Chavez High is a solid squad, the Cougars dominated from start to finish.

So far, in their inaugural season, the Cougars have posted a 4 – 1 record.

The team will face Mountain House on Friday in an away match. Their next five games will be on the road.
