Why Barry? Why? Has been the main question fans have been asking since the end of Season Two speeding into Season Three.

At the end of Season Two after Barry Allen, “The Fastest Man Alive” defeats Zoom (Hunter Zolomon) Barry talks to his future wife Iris West and he runs back to the past to save his mother, inevitably changing the shows timeline forever.

Barry Allen, he is a complicated type. Barry got his power of speed from a particle accelerator explosion in Season One. Since then, interesting things have been happening.

In Season One you’re introduced to Barry’s mentor, Harrison Wells, who you later find out is his greatest enemy, Eobard Thawne Aka, The Reverse Flash. That reveal is pivotal to that season because The Reverse Flash killed Barry’s mother.

In Season Two things build up to the revelation that Zoom is Hunter Zolomon. Zoom was really the opposite of Barry in the way that he wanted to push Barry to kill (Which still affects him in the current season) he was like the Joker to his Batman for the season. Zoom was threatening he kills his own, (Firestorm of Earth 2) he kills whoever he wants to get Barry. The thing that made Zoom awesome was the opening of portals to different universes. (Hence bringing up Firestorm from Earth 2).

Barry has developed this mentality over the course of the show he can do anything, that there’s always a way to win. At the end of Season 2 after defeating Zoom Barry isn’t satisfied because Zoom killed his father, so Barry runs back in time to stop Reverse Flash (Eobard Thawne) from killing his mother. Barry then created an alternate timeline (from the shows original timeline) called “Flashpoint.”

In the first episode you see the results of this, Wally West (Barry’s protégé from the comic books) is actually Kid Flash, he wasn’t just the human Wally West he was the speedster Kid Flash. He had an enemy named The Rival and his sister was his partner, then that all changed.

That all changed when The Rival killed Wally, which causes Barry to be so devastated he has to allow The Reverse Flash to kill his mother in order to try to reverse Flashpoint. That worked but things were different, a villain named Dr. Alchemy (who turned out to work for Savitar) was being controlled and the person under the mask is a good guy now. Barry’s friends’ lives had all been different from Season One. Savitar is supposed to be revealed next week. This episode had Barry go to the future and talk to himself in the future (Feb 3, 2025). The Future Barry is destroyed because the love of his life Iris West had been killed by Savitar by that time in the future. Eventually the Barry from the past brings his friends that are separated in the future back together, he even gets his future self to join the fight again. Future Barry did past Barry a favor (I wish he gave him his future suit) and gave him a USB hard drive with information on a scientist who helped future Barry beat Savitar.

Now, Flash fans can only hope the best for Barry.

The Flash episodes can be seen 8 p.m. Tuesdays on the CW.
