On March 30, Weston Ranch Cougars met the Manteca Buffalos on the baseball diamond, like so many years before.
This time, something different happened. The Cougars won.
By a score of 5-4, the Cougars recorded their first win against the Buffalos since 2012, according to school officials and the MaxPreps.com Web site.
“This is a good win going ahead,” said Varsity team member Amier Bowen, the day after the game.
Though that single symbolic victory came in the middle of a home loss to Manteca, a 3-0 loss to Central Catholic, with an overall record of 9-5-2 and a league record of 2-1-2, it reveals the likelihood that the Cougars could be in the midst of a special season.
“With the right sense of urgency and motivation we can make playoffs,” said Baseball Head Coach David Hager.
“We are very capable of beating Central,” Hager said. The Cougars didn’t lose.
The April 6 Central Catholic game ended in a tie after being suspended due to darkness. The Cougars Tuesday game against Oakdale also ended in a tie, with a game suspended due to darkness.
The Cougars next game is 4 pm today against Oakdale.
The team’s next home game is 4 pm April 20 versus Lathrop.
