Who’s the ginger underwater with the friend who’s named Flounder and the crab named Sebastian?
It’s Ariel, The Little Mermaid.
Weston Ranch High School’s Drama Class will present Disney’s The Little Mermaid during a two-weekend run beginning 6pm April 27, 7pm April 28, and continuing May 5 and May 6 at the WRHS theatre.
Senior Erika Pongos, who is not a redhead, will play the titular role of Ariel from Disney’s version of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale.
“I feel proud of myself to actually get the main role,” Pongos said, “But it can be stressful because everyone in the cast and crew is counting on me.”
Despite the weight of the role, Pongos is going with the flow, thanks to a supportive cast and crew.
“Production is going really well, the whole cast are actually closer ever since the play started,” Pongos told The Prowl. Bonding between the student cast and crew could easily be seen during their daily rehearsals.
The enchanting atmosphere of their rehearsals demonstrates what likely will be an entertaining and charming show for viewers.
WRHS Theater Instructor Bonnie Stogner, the musical’s director, said the production is on schedule to open April 27. “Backstage crew is almost complete, songs are now just being perfected, and (we’re) doing extra choreography,” Stogner said.
Disney’s The Little Mermaid marks the second musical at Weston Ranch in consecutive years. Last year, the school featured another Disney princess, Cinderella. The previous high school musical was Seussical, an amalgam of Doctor Seuss’s most popular works, though this was held in 2010.
